Statement
My research focuses on the identity struggles and inner conflicts of East Asian Gen Z women, shifting between the nostalgia of childhood and the unease of societal expectations. Inspired by Freud's theory of the "Uncanny," I aim to reveal the tensions between personal memory and societal expectations, uncovering the absurd yet compelling nuances of emotional conflict.
To me, childhood memories are both distant and vivid, elusive yet stubborn. I see them as a kaleidoscope, through which I explore the subtle tensions between familiarity and strangeness, intimacy and detachment. My work seeks to blur the boundaries between the individual and the collective, private memories and social narratives, offering new possibilities for fluidity in a world fixated on categorization.
